At Boyer's Floor Covering, we know your hardwood flooring is an investment as well as a beautiful addition to your home. As such, you'll want to keep it in great shape for years to come. Some simple care and maintenance tips will help! Read on to learn more.
Daily care and maintenance
Before delving into daily care, you'll first want to establish some preventative maintenance routines. If you have pets, keep their nails trimmed, and be sure to remove heels or heavy boots before walking across your flooring. It's also wise to use a humidifier and a dehumidifier as needed, as hardwood is sensitive to changes in climate. Add in an area rug or two to both enhance your room and add cushioning to your flooring.
For regular care, you'll want to sweep, vacuum, and dry mop as needed. Don't use a wet mop, as hardwood flooring is not waterproof and can be damaged by moisture. If your hardwood needs a deeper clean, use only manufacturer-approved cleaning products.
Dealing with spills and stains
Occasional spills and stains are inevitable, especially if you have pets or kids. Most liquid spills will wipe away simply with a cloth. You'll want to do this as quickly as possible, as hardwood flooring is not water-resistant. Other spills, such as wax or nail polish, are more complex. For these, you'll want to consult your manufacturer's care guidelines.
